Quality Lives at these RQI® Hospitals: Congratulations 2020 Get With The Guidelines®-Resuscitation Award Recipients

Quality Lives at these RQI® Hospitals

During American Heart Month, the American Heart Association® and RQI Partners are together shining a spotlight on the importance of heart health and the role high-quality resuscitation plays in saving lives.

In 1999, the American Heart Association launched the National Registry of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.  Building on that work, Get With The Guidelines®- Resuscitation (GWTG-R) collects in-hospital arrest, medical emergency team, respiratory compromise and post-cardiac arrest care data from more than 400 hospitals. Data from the registry gives participating hospitals feedback on their performance at delivering guideline-based resuscitation and patient outcomes through site-specific reports and national benchmarking with other participating hospitals.  The data also helps advance scientific research for in-hospital resuscitation.

Enter, Resuscitation Quality Improvement® (RQI) the American Heart Association’s digital resuscitation education program providing learners with verified CPR competence.  RQI moves beyond training (a one-time static class every two years) to verified competence; a quarterly learning journey that integrates adult mastery learning techniques with current American Heart Association algorithms and activities.

Where Quality Comes Together

Where RQI and GWTG-R intersect is – quality.  Data and measurement are two main ingredients in quality improvement.  Both RQI and GWTG-R provide metric visibility in the circle of resuscitation performance. RQI provides ongoing analytics on each learner’s cognitive and skill performance.  GWTG-R provides hospital-wide insight into the effectiveness of identification, management and recovery from an in-hospital cardiac or respiratory event.  When combined, these two programs highlight the performance continuum of the practitioner from learning, to application, to outcome with the goal of identifying gaps or celebrating achievement to improve survival outcomes.

Knowing the strength of combining these two quality programs, the American Heart Association provides GWTG-R complimentary to every hospital utilizing RQI.

Each Spring the American Heart Association recognizes hospitals utilizing Get With The Guidelines – Resuscitation that implement specific quality improvement measures outlined for the treatment of patients who suffer cardiac arrests in the hospital.  We are very proud to recognize the 2020 GWTG-R award winners who are also utilizing RQI as their resuscitation education program.
